Brice Bowrey, PhD
Brice Bowrey is a researcher and analyst specializing in science and technology studies (STS), healthcare policy, and historical analysis. With public health, history, and computational humanities training, Brice uses interdisciplinary methods to understand how science, technology, and policy intersect to shape our world. His chief research interest relates to the evolution of the US medical device industry during the latter part of the twentieth century. He is particularly interested in analyzing technical experts’ professional cultures and rhetorical strategies to explain how they interface with government, influence public perception, and shape public policy at a national level.
Brice has collaborated on academic research projects, served as an Instructor in the Department of History at the University of Maryland, and worked on grants from the Sloan Foundation, the Smithsonian Institution, and the National Institutes of Health. He also consults with academics and institutions to implement open-source technologies that advance research and teaching. In these roles, he has enjoyed sharing knowledge about a wide range of topics, from sanitation practices during the US Civil War to the application of language models in pedagogy. In all his work, Brice is committed to using historical research and STS theory to inform current policy debates and help citizens better understand the technological systems around them.
